Just as it had previously announced, Rovio Entertainment rolled out the 'Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage' game as part of its Rovio Stars initiative. The new game is available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

If you’re already familiar with the Rovio Stars initiative, then I’ll go straight to the news and skip any unnecessary introduction. As promised when it introduced the Rovio Stars initiative, Rovio Entertainment published “Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage”. You can get the game right now and play it on your mobile or tablet.
  • Get “Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage” for iPhone and iPod touch by following this link.
  • And the iPad version by following this one.
Check out the video below to get a quick taste of what the game is like.

And now, the introduction I skipped above – keep reading if you’re not familiar with Rovio Stars.

Mid-May Rovio Entertainment introduced a new mobile gaming publishing initiative called Rovio Stars. The aim of this initiative is for Rovio to publish third party titles, games from talented developers from all over the world.

“Rovio Entertainment has positioned itself as one of the powerhouses of mobile entertainment, so moving into publishing is a logical step for us at this point”, said Rovio’s EVP of Games Jami Laes. “We want to help our fans find quality entertainment among the more than 100,000 games available in app stores. That’s where Rovio Stars comes in.”

“In the course of our work, we run into so many fantastic upcoming titles -- games with memorable characters and entertaining gameplay that are also just really fun to play!” said Kalle Kaivola, Director of Development. “These are the sorts of titles we’re interested in. We want to help the developers to give these games that last coat of polish, publish the games and find their audience. We’re focusing on a small, select number of games, and each Rovio Stars launch will be an event of its own.”

When Rovio Entertainment introduced the Rovio Stars initiative, it said that it would publish two new games:
  • Tiny Thief – a puzzle-solving, hidden-objects adventure game set in a medieval fantasy world full of surprises.
  • Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage – help the stranded Viking by using your icebreaking skills. Avoid trolls, deadly traps, dangerous enemies, and more .

And so, coming full circle, I repeat what I said at the start of this article: Iceabreaker: A Viking Voyage has been published. The first game to be published as part of Rovio Stars is now available for download.
