IKEA Brilliantly Mocks Apple to Promote its bookbook

IKEA recently rolled out a video that promotes an innovative new device, the “bookbook”. Said device is only 8mm thin, weighs in at less than 400g, comes pre-installed with thousands of furnishing ideas, and much more. Jörgen Eghammer, Chief Design Guru at IKEA, presents the bookbook’s main features in the video embedded below. Check it out for a laugh!

Furniture giant IKEA seems to have taken a page from Samsung’s book of ideas.

You see, back in July, Samsung rolled out two videos that made fun of Apple:
  1. Wall Huggers – makes fun of the fact that iPhone users spend a lot of time charging their phones. Galaxy S5 users on the other hand don’t have to do so because they can enable Ultra Power Saving Mode. Furthermore, they can easily change a drained battery with a new one.
  2. Screen Envy – makes fun of the iPhone’s small screen. The video emphasizes the fact that the Galaxy S5 has a 5.1" HD display and iPhone users watch in envy at the S5’s large screen.
Inspired by Samsung (at least I choose to think so), IKEA rolled out a video that brilliantly mocks Apple. Entitled “Experience the power of a bookbook”, this video takes an Apple approach to presenting the new IKEA Catalog, which is neither a book nor an eBook – it is a bookbook.

The IKEA bookbook is, as stated in the video, life enhancing new technology. Just take a look at the features:
  • No cables to mess around with and a battery that lasts forever.
  • Large & expandable interface that provides access to pre-installed content (more than 300 high definition pages).
  • Browse the interface using tactile touch technology; no lag, no matter how fast you scroll through the interface.
  • Easily bookmark the content you like.
  • Color coding system for multiple users.
  • Voice-activated password protection
