Hulu Desktop App for Windows and Mac OS X
People living in the US of A will undoubtedly be familiar with Hulu, the website that provides add-supported live streaming services (streams movies and TV shows online, for free); any Hulu US resident should be made aware of the fact that watching streaming videos from Hulu no longer requires you to fire up your browser and visit the Hulu web page. Hulu has launched a new desktop app that comes free of charge and provides support for Microsoft’s Windows operating system and Apple’s Mac OS X.
The rest of the world, as in people outside of the US, need not bother with Hulu or its desktop app. The webpage does not stream outside the US; attempting to view any footage on Hulu will prompt the following message: “We’re sorry, currently out video library can only be streamed within the United States.” The Hulu team says it wants to achieve global availability in the future, but for the time being the Hulu web page and the Hulu desktop app are limited to the US of A.
Putting availability aside, here is how Hulu Labs describes Hulu for the Windows or Mac OS X desktop: “Hulu Desktop is a lean-back viewing experience for your personal computer. It features a sleek new look that's optimized for use with standard Windows Media Center remote controls or Apple remote controls, allowing you to navigate Hulu's entire library with just six buttons. For users without remotes, the application is keyboard and mouse-enabled. Hulu Desktop is a downloadable application and will work on PCs and Macs. It will initially launch as a beta product during which we plan to gather and incorporate user feedback to improve the service.”
Minimal system requirements for Windows-powered machines:
Processor: Intel Pentium Core Duo 1.8Ghz
RAM: 2GB
Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista
Internet connection: 2Mbps
Other: Flash 9.0
Minimal system requirements for Mac OS X-powered machines:
Processor: Intel Pentium Core Duo 2.0Ghz
RAM: 2GB
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Internet connection: 2Mbps
Other: Flash 9.0
