Samsung’s new T5 portable solid-state drive (PSSD) uses the latest 64-layer V-NAND technology, offers between 250GB and 2TB of storage capacity, has a lightweight and shock-resistant design that’s smaller than the average business card, and delivers industry-leading transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s.

That’s all fine and very impressive, but the question that I want to ask is… how does it compare to the former model, the T3 PSSD? The infographic below puts the two devices side by side and highlights the improvements that Samsung made to its latest portable solid-state drive.

T5 Portable SSD – Main Specs
  • Design – aluminum exterior and shock-resistant internal frame with no moving parts.
  • Capacity – 250GB and 500GB for the Alluring Blue model, 1TB or 2TB for the Deep Black model.
  • Transfer speed – up to 540 MB/s.
  • Interface – compatible with USB 3.1 Gen2 (10Gbps), backwards compatible. The T5 includes two connection cables: USB-C to C and USB-C to A.
  • Encryption – AES 256-bit hardware data encryption.
  • Dimensions & weight – 74 x 57.3 x 10.5 mm (3.0 x 2.3 x 0.4 inches); 51 grams (1.8 oz).
  • Colors – Deep Black and Alluring Blue metal finishes.
  • Price – starting at $129.99 for the Alluring Blue 250GB model. The T5 PSSD is available globally as of August 15, 2017.
