How Popular Is Facebook Nowadays?

We all know that when it comes to social networking sites, Facebook is as popular as they come. But precisely how popular is Facebook with people from all over the world? Even though a study revealed Facebook is bad for your relationship, we knew that more than 250 million accounts have been created on the popular social networking site. But that figure is from way back in July, when the sun was shining and the weather was hot as hell. How popular is Facebook today, like this month?

According to Mark Zuckerberg, the guy who alongside Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes created Facebook, the number of accounts has gone up to 300 million as of this month, as of September the 15th to be more precise. That is a big number indeed, as Zuckerberg himself admitted, but it is not the peak of Facebook’s popularity. The site is expected to grow, the number of accounts is expected to become even bigger in the future.

“The way we think about this is that we're just getting started on our goal of connecting everyone. Because we want to make it as easy and fast as possible for the world to connect, one of the things we think a lot about is how to make Facebook perform even faster and more efficiently as we grow. We face a lot of fun and important challenges that require rethinking the current systems for enabling information flow across the web. Over time, Facebook will continue to be as strong as all of the connections you make. We'll continue building new and better things to make connecting with the people you care about as easy and rewarding as possible,” commented Mark Zuckerberg.

The 300 million mark refers to people who access Facebook from their desktop computer, but not everybody does that. Some people access the social networking site from their internet-enabled mobile phone. Amongst them, how popular is Facebook? According to Facebook Mobile’s Henri Moissinac, more than 65 million people actively use Facebook on their mobile devices. Eight months ago only 20 million people did this – a significat increase indeed.

“Even when you're away from your desktop, we want you to be able to share and connect with those that matter to you on Facebook. As we celebrate 65 million, we want you to be able to take Facebook with you wherever you go. That's why we are continuously making updates to our mobile products and working with some of the biggest names in mobile to make sure that Facebook is available on the latest devices and mobile operating systems,” commented Henri Moissinac.
