Weapons are what’s known as a "game mechanic". One of multiple mechanics a game uses and one of several factors that influence the "gameplay." So while lots of video games feature weapons as their main game mechanic, their gameplay varies for the simple reason that the gameplay experience depends on how multiple game mechanics work together.
