By the same time next week Christmas will be over and we will be either enjoying our gifts, or contemplating means of exchanging them. Until then we get to decorate our homes and our computers – we’ve already seen some Christmassy add-ons for the Firefox browser (and additional Christmassy add-ons). Now let us focus on the Windows OS itself and see how one could make it a little bit more festive.

With Christmas Tree Collection 1.1 you can add a Christmas tree to your desktop, but not just any tree – a fully customizable one. This is a good idea if you have already taken considerable time to customize your desktop and would rather not mess with it; simply add a small Christmas tree instead to remind you that winter holidays are here (a true computer fans would most likely focus on the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show).

Moving on, let’s switch focus from the desktop and onto the screensaver. There are plenty to choose from, such as 3D Magic Christmas Toy Shop 2, Christmas Magic 3D Screensaver, 3D Christmas Screensaver, Christmas Eve 3D Screensaver 1.0, and so on – the problem with all of them is that they cost money, and I know you would much rather spend it on something else. So the screensaver that I present to you is one that does not cost a dime and features an extensive list of wintery, festive pics: Christmas Wishes Screensaver 1.0

If you would like to take this Christmassy customization one step further, you could go for something that incorporates wallpapers and screensavers: Christmas oriented themes. If you are still using Windows XP, then perhaps you will appreciate the free Plex-Mas 2008 theme; if on the other hand you have left XP behind and switched to Windows Vista, you will definitely want to know about Happy Holidays Vista Theme.
