Can you guess who’s back? Since it’s the month of December, the answer to that question is… Google’s Santa Tracker!

On December 24th, Santa Claus will set off to deliver presents to all the good little boys and girls around the world. That’s when Google’s Santa Tracker will start following Santa’s voyage. You can hardly wait, I know. To help pass the time, try some of the fun activities presented by Google's Santa Tracker.

Counting down to Christmas Day

Google’s Santa Tracker is back! For the 11th consecutive year, Google’s Santa Tracker website is back. With it, Google wants to provide “a fun, educational, and interactive way for holiday fans to experience the holiday season.”

Each year, Google’s Santa Tracker website goes live on December 1st. And once it goes live, it starts counting down to Christmas Eve, December 24. The countdown timer is the first thing you’ll see when you visit the website.

Google’s Santa Tracker is available for all screens

There’s the Santa Tracker website that you can access from your desktop computer or from your laptop. Alongside the website there’s the Santa Tracker extension for Chrome and the Santa Tracker app that works with Android, Android Wear, and Chromecast. Santa Tracker is even available as a virtual reality experience for Google Cardboard.

This means that you can enjoy Google’s Santa Tracker on a variety of screens – your smartphone, your smartwatch, your PC, you get the idea.

And if you search for Santa or Santa Claus on Google, you will see a card that promotes the Santa Tracker website and tells you how many days are left until Christmas Eve.

Fun surprises are unlocked daily

There’s a very good reason to keep coming back to Google’s Santa Tracker: something fun is unlocked each day.

On December 2, this fun video was unlocked.

On December 4, the Learn Translations experience was unlocked. It translates Santa Claus, Season’s Greetings and other holiday words from English to other languages – including elvish.

More fun stuff will be unlocked each day until December 24. That’s when The Tracker will be unlocked. Use it to follow Santa’s journey around the world, starting from Australia of course.

Fun fact: On December 24, search for the North Pole or Santa in Google Maps (iOS or Android) and you’ll get real time updates on Santa’s location.

Play games, learn by playing games

As in previous years, Google’s Santa Tracker lets you play games. What’s interesting is that this year, Google decided to focus on learning, adding games based on coding, geography, translations, and more.

“From games that introduce basic concepts of coding to geography quizzes, to providing lesson plans to teachers, Google’s Santa Tracker is sneaking in learning experiences between all the fun and games,” explained Google.

Speaking about learning, Traditions presents presents various Christmas traditions from around the world. Such as this Greek tradition:

“In Greece, friendly but troublesome creatures called 'kallikántzari' live most of the year in the center of the earth. But at Christmas, they love to hide in people's houses, frightening people, playing tricks, or devouring Christmas foods. Greeks perform rituals to keep these hobgoblins away.”

Tis the season of giving… to charity

Google's Santa Tracker invites you to learn about charitable organizations and help fund a special needs project on DonorsChoose.org. Google will match your donations by 50% until it reaches a donation goal of $1 million.
