No matter what operating system you use, be it Microsoft’s Windows, the Linux Based Ubuntu 8.10 or even Mac OS X, the simple truth of the matter is that your hardware configuration can either help you (for example ASRock lets Vista boot in 4 seconds) or be a great pain in the neck. Amongst the various system optimization tools that are available for download out there, I propose to you three software applications what will help your hard disk work faster.

For those of you keeping track, a while back we featured an article on how to disable atime, action which would put less strain on the HDD (hard disk drive) and consequently make for a faster running Linux OS. Since we’re on the topic of Linux operating systems, you must know that there are some simple tasks that you can perform to improve your Ubuntu 8.10. Now let us move on to the three hard disk optimization tools from the title of this article.

Autodelete v. 1.01

This piece of software which will not cost you a thing since it is freeware, will only work on Windows-based operating systems. What would you consider to be the most annoying snag HDD-wise? I would take into consideration the vast amount of data that piles up onto my hard drive. Autodelete 1.01 lets you monitor certain folders and when files in said folders exceed a certain “expiration date”, they will be deleted. You can set up Autodelete to permanently delete them, or simply move them to the Recycle Bin.

CCleaner v. 2.14.750

This (almost) 3MB piece of free software will come in handy when you want to optimize and clean your OS, since it will let your Windows-based system run faster by deleting unused files. Other things that this software does: clears your online browsing history, cleans the Windows registry, removes 3rd application temp files and MRUs (recent file lists).

Wash’n’Sweep 3.0.3

There are several tasks that you can use Wash’n’Sweep for. You can set it up to run regular system cleaning tasks; it will delete files permanently, meaning that no recovery program will ever get them back; it will protect your online surfing from annoying ads and pop-ups.

If you would like to get Autodelete 1.0.1, a download location is available here.
If you would like to get CCleaner 2.14.750, a download location is available here.
If you would like to get Wash’n’Sweep 3.0.3, a download location is available here.
