A person with malicious intent has managed to break into the Twitter account of Axl Rose. Once in there the hacker decided to play a prank on all the Guns N' Roses fans out there and posted the following message:
All upcoming Guns N' Roses dates are officially cancelled. Please contact your place of purchase for any refunds.”

A Guns N' Roses spokesperson confirmed the fact that Axl Rose’s account has indeed been hacked. The spokesperson explained that the band’s European tour has not been canceled, despite what that message said.

The whole thing spread like wildfire when Twitter users and Gun N’ Roses fans believed the message to be genuine and retweeted it. As a matter of fact the phony message is still up on AXL Rose’s Twitter account – or at least it was still up at the time of writing this. This may be an indication that the hacker is still in control of the account, said Graham Cluley, Senior Technology Consultant with Sophos, company that specializes in providing antivirus, anti-spam, spyware removal software, network and internet security, data protection, and computer security solutions.

“Axl Rose's account still carries the announcement that tour dates are cancelled, and no retraction has been published. Whether this is because the bandana-wearing cauterwauling wild man of rock hasn't yet regained control of his Twitter account, or perhaps simply doesn't care that a fraudulent message has been sent to his 68,000 followers, isn't at this point obvious,” said Cluley.

In related security and Sophos news, the company recently announced that there is a scam that is virally spreading on Facebook, luring users to get a phony Dislike button. Instead of getting a Dislike button, users give a rogue Facebook app permission to access their profiles – and unwillingly help whoever is behind this app make a profit (read more about it here).
