Googlepedia 0.5.5 Firefox Add-on Blends Google Search with Wikipedia
When you combine the usefulness and convenience of a Google search with the vast amounts of information available on Wikipedia, all nicely wrapped in the form of a Firefox add-on, you get something like Googlepedia 0.5.5. What this free software extension does is it shows relevant Wikipedia articles whenever you enter a search query in the Google search engine (you must be using Mozilla Firefox).
In related Wikipedia news, you might want to be made aware of the fact that now there is a mobile dedicated Wikipedia page. In related Google news, the search engine giant is no longer supporting Mozilla Firefox since its own browser, Google Chrome, has gone out of Beta. Still, this did not prevent Mozilla from updating their browser to Firefox 3.0.5 and Firefox 2.0.0.20.
Getting back to the Googlepedia 0.5.5 add-on, here is a quick list of features you can expect to get:
- When you open a Wikipedia article, the internal links will trigger a Google search when you click them.
- Images are linked directly to their full size version and Google AdWords are removed.
- Can de disabled with a simple click of a button; can just as easily be expanded to full screen mode.
- Works with any Windows-based operating system (Windows 98, Me, NT, XP, Vista)
- Works with Firefox 1.5 through 3.X versions (you are advised to update your browser to Firefox 3.0 mainly due to security related issues, such as the fact that Firefox 2.0 no longer has adequate phishing protection).
- With version 0.5.5, Googlepedia has increased language support for the following languages: Chinese, Japanese, German, Dutch, Czech, Polis and Portuguese.
If you are feeling the Christmas spirit and would like to bring it to your system, perhaps you would be interested in some Christmassy Firefox Add-ons, some additional Christmassy Firefox add-ons, free Christmas wallpapers, screensavers and themes for your OS, or perhaps a Christmas inspired game such as Wrap Attack or Frost Bite 2.
If you would like to get Googlepedia 0.5.5, a download location is available here.
