Google's Jokes for April Fools' Day 2015

Google celebrates April Fools' in a grand way, as you can see here, here and here. This year is no different. So I thought it a good idea to bundle together all of Google’s jokes for April Fools' Day 2015.

Take a look below!

Smartbox – The Smart Mailbox of Tomorrow

Smartbox by Inbox by Gmail by Google aims to replace your traditional mailbox. It is a smart, modern product that fuses physical mail with everything you love about electronic mail. It sends notifications to your mobile, has smart folders to keep things organized and powerful filters to block out spam, and it even comes with a built-in version of Android.

#ChromeSelfie – Show Others How You Really Feel

As you surf the web using Google’s Chrome web browser for Android, you may come across something funny and laugh. Or you may come across something amazing that will leave you with a bewildered look on your face. No matter what you find online, the important thing is that you can share how you feel with #ChromeSelfie.

AbdelKarim Mardini, Chrome Product Manager and Pro Prankster, explains:

“If you’re a selfie fanatic like me you've probably sent a lot of selfies in reaction to articles in the past, but it takes a lot of time and hassle to exit Chrome, open the camera and snap a pic. In fact, with so much of our time spent browsing online, most Chrome users lose up to 6 hours of selfie-taking time every day! And we think it’s a tragedy that your reactions, as well as luscious lashes and beautiful brows, are going uncaptured. With #ChromeSelfie you can share sites with your family and friends on social media and via instant messages, along with a handsome selfie instead of cumbersome text.”

PAC-Maps – Google’s Most Ambitious Maps Update

With PAC-Maps, Google lets you play Pac-Man within Google Maps. Access Google Maps, click the PAC-Maps icon from the lower left hand corner, and play some Pac-Man

PAC-Maps works with the desktop and with the Android and iOS mobile operating system.

Google Panda – Cute yet Brilliant Mobile Device

Google Japan introduced Panda, a cute and shockproof mobile device that features state-of-the-art emotional and conversational intelligence. Ask it something, and it will provide an answer. It works with 50 languages and answers questions in 0.3 seconds.

Google Japanese Input – The Piro-piro Version

Here’s another one from Google Japan: a device that makes hands-free input more convenient than ever.

com.Google – A Mirrored Version of Google

If you visit com.Google instead of Google.com, you’ll be presented with a mirrored version of Google.

Self-Browsing Chromebook – Don't Waste Your Energy

A rogue team of engineers came up with Self-Browsing Chromebook, an extension that, true to its word, makes Chromebooks self-browsing. The extension automatically writes emails to your mother, automatically sends roses to your significant other on Valentine’s Day, automatically plans your summer vacation, automatically posts status updates, and more.

“People tell us they love their Chromebooks. Yet, you have to use a trackpad, type URLs and Search queries using a keyboard, and click on links. Google’s top research scientists have calculated that the average person burns up to five calories per day by clicking on web links. This is absurd—these calories could be put to much better use for breathing, pranking a co-worker, or cleaning your bathtub,” commented Barbara Macdonald, Product Manager and Efficiency Advocate.

Google Fiber Dial-up Mode – More Time for Other Activities

Google Fiber instantly connects to the web – and that is bad, because people don’t have time for other activities. You see, when you have to wait, you have the opportunity to go get yourself a cup of coffee, get a sandwich, take a short bathroom break, play with the dog, and do some other activity.

The Google Fiber team wants to give people their time back. To achieve this goal, they worked with dial-up engineers, 56k researchers and T1 enthusiasts across the world to come up with a new dial-up mode feature.

“By incorporating dial-up technology, we were able to reduce Fiber speeds up to 376 times by withholding photons from the fiber strands. In doing so, the light-based fiber optic technology dims to a flicker of its previous capacity, giving our users those precious moments to load the dishwasher, hug the kids or walk the dog,” explained Maurice Clarke, Fiber Technologist.

MotoSelfieStick – Motorola’s Selfie Stick

Since Motorola used to be owned by Google, I’m just going to leave this here.

In related news, Twitter announced that it is entering the hardware business with the Twelfie Stick.
