Google Squared, the useful new feature that Mountain View search engine giant Google announced last week at the Searchology 2009 event, has now gone live – that is to say the site is up and you can visit it if you want to, but it is not yet running as it should.

Back that the Searchology event, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, Marissa Mayer, said Google Squared is not your average search engine and consequently it will not find web pages about your query’s topic; what it does is it “automatically fetches and organizes facts from across the Internet.” At the time Marissa Mayer said Google Squared will be opened to user during this month.

The Google Squared web page has made an appearance, but for the time being its bears the “coming soon” tag. You are cordially invited to use the time you spend visiting Google Squared by “squaring some numbers. The web page provides “squaring functionality” meaning that you can enter any number, click “Square it” and see the result. There are some amusing bits you should be made aware of:
- typing in “times” will yield the result “1440 Broadway”.
- the “be there” query becomes “or b2“ upon clicking “Square it”.
- the “Square it” result of “alpha” is “beta”.
- Last but not least, upon typing in “42” and clicking “Square it” you will be presented with this piece of text: “The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything”.
