Google decided to pull the plug on Helpouts, the live video service that promised to offer “real help from real people in real time”.

The service will shut down on April 20, 2015. From April 20th until November 1st you’ll be able to download your Helpouts history via Google Takeout.

Back in November 2013, Google introduced a new live video service called Helpouts. Its purpose was to provide real help to real people in real time. If you needed help with something, you could use Helpouts to connect to someone who could lend a helping hand.

At the time, Google explained that its aim with Helpouts is to “help people help each other.” By using the power of the web and the convenience of real-time video, people who need help can get in touch with people who can offer help. No matter where you are in the world, no matter the time, no matter the problem, you can find someone out there who can help you out.

Unfortunately, Helpouts wasn’t as successful as Google hoped it would be. And because of that, Google decided to pull the plug and focus its resources on something else.

“Since launching in 2013, Helpouts has been a home for people to connect with experts on topics they want to learn about or seek advice and solutions to everyday problems. The Helpouts community includes some engaged and loyal contributors, but unfortunately, it hasn't grown at the pace we had expected. Sadly, we've made the tough decision to shut down the product,” Google explained.

Helpouts will shut down on April 20th, 2015.
From April 20th until November 1st, 2015, you will be able to download your Helpouts history with Google Takeout.
