As you may remember, this summer Google announced that in the near future it will bring Google Goggles functionality to the Apple-developed iPhone. At the Augmented Reality Event in Santa Clara, Project Manager Shailesh Nalawadi confirmed that Google’s mobile visual search tool, Google Goggles, will be released for the iPhone. Shailesh Nalawadi did not provide a timeline – he just said “soon”.

Turns out that “soon” meant this October. A couple of days ago the Mountain View-based search engine giant Google announced the fact that it updated its Google Mobile App for iPhone to include Google Goggles functionality. To put it in other words, the most recent version of Google Mobile App for iPhone, version 0.7, comes with Google Goggles.

Google Goggles, in case you don’t know this, allows you to search for something by simply taking a picture of it. If you are on vacation with your spouse and you want to impress her, you can for example search for information on the Eiffel Tower by taking a picture of it.

“We’re excited to announce that Goggles is now a feature of Google Mobile App for iPhone. Google Mobile App already lets you speak your queries, and it can also use your phone’s location to give you more relevant search results. In the new version of Google Mobile App just tap on the camera button to search using Goggles. Goggles will analyze the image and highlight the objects it recognizes -- just click on them to find out more,” commented Software Engineer on the Google Mobile Team, Milan Broum.

Please note that Google Mobile App with Google Goggles is supported only the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 on iOS4 and that Goggles is enabled only for English-speaking users.
