Until recently iPhone and iPod Touch users who wanted the functionality of Google search at their fingertips had the Google Mobile app. Now they no longer have the Google Mobile app because it is history. Mountain View-based search engine giant Google announced that Google Mobile app is no more – it has been replaced by the Google Search app.

The new Google Search app is better than the old Google Mobile app, Google explained. It is a redesigned, faster version of the old Google Mobile app. Here’s what’s new in the Google Search app:

Interaction
Swipe down when browsing through search results or looking at webpage and you will be able to see the search bar; you will also be able to change your settings.
Tap the Apps button at the bottom of the screen and you will be able to access the mobile versions of other Google apps.

New toolbar

The Google Search app comes with a new toolbar that helps you filter your search results. Swipe from left to right to open the new toolbar. You can bring up the toolbar before performing a search or after a search, while viewing the search results.

Pick up where you left off
Say you search for something, then leave the app, and then you come back later. When you return you will be able to either start a new search or pick off from where you left off (tap on the lower part of the page).

Other improvements
Alastair Tse, Software Engineer and Robert Hamilton, Product Manager, explain: “here are a number of improvements we’ve made to everything else you love in the app, including Google Goggles, Voice Search, Search with My Location, Gmail unread counts and more. There's a lot in the app, so we've added a simple help feature to let you explore it. Access this by tapping the question mark above the Google logo.”
