Google Labs Issues New Gmail Feature, Tasks
There is no doubt that Google’s mail client has some seriously cool features, albeit some get overlooked. The guys from Google Labs have recently released a brand new feature entitled “Tasks”, which will come in handy when you need to properly manage your tasks. According to Jonathan Terleski, Michael Lancaster, and Brett Lider from the Tasks team, you could think of it as a lightweight to-do list.
“People use Gmail to get stuff done, so we've added a lightweight way to keep track of what you need to do, right from within Gmail. We put your tasks in the same kind of window as chats, so they're visible while you're scanning your inbox, reading mail, or searching (and in Settings, too!). Just pop your list out into a new window to use Tasks outside of Gmail,” explain Jonathan Terleski, Michael Lancaster, and Brett Lider.
Here is a quick list of what Tasks can do for you: you can add new tasks with a simple click of the mouse; you can reorder and delete said tasks; you can give each task a due date; you can take an email message and simply turn it into a task. And if you would like to keep a close eye on your inbox, why not use the recently released Gmail Gadget?
Enabling the new Tasks feature is a pretty straightforward process that takes just three simple steps.
1. Login to you Gmail account. If you do not have one, why not register? Setting up an account is free-of-charge, it will take a very short time, and once you are done you will get to enjoy some of the cool features that Gmail has to offer.
2. Look to the top right corner and locate the “Settings” tab.
3. Click Settings and then locate the “Labs” button. It should be up and to the left, right next to the “Themes” button. All you have to do know is set Tasks to “Enable” and “Save Changes”. While you are poking around your Gmail settings, why not take the time to check out some other cool features, such as Canned Responses, or even change the looks of your mail client with Gmail Themes.
