Ramadan kicked off on Wednesday, June 17, and will last for a whole month, until Friday, July 17, 2015. About a billion Muslims from all over the world will observe Ramadan by fasting from sunrise until sunset and by refraining from sinful behavior.

To lend a helping hand to all the Muslims who observe Ramadan, Google came up with My Ramadan Companion. It provides useful information about Ramadan, easy access to Ramadan apps, and more.

Some 200 million Muslims who live away from their families use technology to connect and share moments with the people who are an important part of their lives. With Maps they can search for the fastest route from work to home and observe Iftar. With Google Play apps they can easily find out when the sun rises/sets and when local shops and restaurants open.

Google, with the aim of helping Muslims get the most of Ramadan, launched My Ramadan Companion. It features all the bits I mentioned above and other customized and locally relevant information.

My Ramadan Companion – Main Features
  • Sunrise and sunset – find out when the sun rises and when the sun sets in your location.
  • Navigation – get directions to the closest charity Iftar, see traffic details for your location.
  • Food – find and share recipes.
  • YouTube – find and watch Ramadan content on YouTube, including drama series, comedy sketches, and health tips.
  • Google Now – relevant cards related to Ramadan will be brought up by Google Now.
  • Ramadan Apps – a nice collection of apps that will come in handy during Ramadan.

“With My Ramadan Companion, we hope we can help you take care of the little things, so you can focus on the big things. Ramadan Kareem!” said Zain Kamal Masri, Associate Product Marketing Manager, Middle East and North Africa.
