According to figures recently made public by Google, some 550,000 Android-powered devices are activated on a daily basis. And what do you suppose those people do once they get their Android smartphone? Why they get some cool apps from the Android Market. And so we get to some other interesting numbers: Google announced this week that apps are being downloaded from the Android Market at a rate of 1 billion per month.

So far the Android Market has served more than 20 billion downloads. Over the weekend the Android Market exceeded 10 billion app downloads. I must say, the Android Market is experiencing an impressive growth. Keep in mind that back in July 2010 the Android Market had served just 1 billion downloads. Check out the graph below to get a better idea of how much the Android Market grew.

Of course, Mountain View-based search engine giant Google couldn’t be happier with the Android Market’s growth rate. 20 billion downloads is an impressive milestone, one that deserves to be celebrated. So Google decided to celebrate with a “90% off promotion.” For period of 10 days a selection of great apps will be offered for the low amount of 10 cents.

“To celebrate this milestone, we partnered with some of the Android developers who contributed to this milestone to make a bunch of great Android apps available at an amazing price. Starting today for the next 10 days, we’ll have a new set of awesome apps available each day for only 10 cents each,” said on the 6th of December, Eric Chu, Director, Android Developer Ecosystem.

Visit the Android Market daily for the duration of the promo to find out which apps are available for purchase for the discounted price of 10 cents.
