Clem Lefebvre just announced that the MintBox 2 is now available for purchase from CompuLab. As we already know, MintBox 2 has more than 4 times the performance of the original MintBox.

No bad news for Linux Mint fans today, even though it is Friday the 13th (of September). Quite the opposite, we have some very good news for them: MintBox 2 went on sale! You can get the device from CompuLab for $599. For this amount of money you will get a sturdy, powerful, and portable device powered by Linux Mint.

If you are not familiar with the MintBox 2, let me quickly put things in perspective. This device is a mini-computer; it is roughly the size of a router, which means you can very conveniently carry it with you. It comes with 8USB ports, in/out audio jacks, eSATA, Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth. So hook it up to a monitor/TV, plug in some speakers, a mouse and a keyboard, and you have yourself a nice computer that you can use to browse the web, watch videos, listen to music, and so on.

“The unit feels very special and very unique. It’s small, about the size of a router, so it fits behind your keyboard, your TV and it’s easy to bring with you anywhere you go,” said Lead Linux Mint Developer Clem Lefebvre. “It’s extremely sturdy and completely silent. There is no plastic, the case is entirely made of solid die-cast iron and acts as a heat sink, so there are no fans inside of it.”
