If you want to get apps for your Android powered device you can get them from Google’s Android Market, or from other locations, like for example GetJar, the world's largest free app store with over 2 billion downloads to date. With the introduction of GetJar Gold, there’s now a new incentive to get your apps from GetJar instead of the Android Market or some other app store.

What is GetJar Gold? To put it simply, it is a means of getting premium apps for free. If an app costs $10 for example in the Android Market, you may get it free of charge via GetJar Gold. The selection of apps on GetJar Gold, at the time of writing this, is pretty slim (some 50 titles). But GetJar representatives explained that more app will be added in the future – after they pass a rigorous selection process.

The fact that thanks to GetJar Gold you don’t have to pay for apps that cost money in the Android Market or Amazon App Store is great news. I’ve mentioned this several times before and I’m going to do it again: I don’t particularly like to part with my hard earned money, and I would much rather get something for free than pay for it. So GetJar is a perfect fit – I don’t get to part with my money, and I get premium apps. You can’t argue with free. At least I won’t argue with free.

One question comes to mind. How can GetJar give away premium apps for free? An answer to that question was provided by Ilja Laurs, CEO and Founder of GetJar. Here’s what Ilja Laurs had to say:
“We are able to develop programs like GetJar Gold because of our open and free business model. We regret that at this time we cannot extend our program to iPhone users, as Apple runs a closed ecosystem that does not allow for competing app distributors like GetJar. Unfortunately, iPhone users will have to continue paying for the very same apps that their Android counterparts enjoy for free.”
