The spammers are at it once more, picking on celebrity names just so as to propagate their malware. Their latest endeavor is to announce to the world that president-elect Barack Obama does not believe he can bring about true change and consequently has refused the position of President of the United States of America. This is of course nothing more than a malicious spam campaign, similar to the one spawned when everyone was awaiting the presidential elections results, or similar to the one claiming that losing the campaign caused McCain to suffer a fatal heart attack.

Here is a sample from the spam message entitled “Barack Obama has refused to be a president”: “Barack Obama's inauguration that was planned on 20th January 2009 is under the threat of failure. On the Eve of Inauguration Day President-elect Barack Obama made statement. He declared that he is definitely NOT ready for this position. Analysts say that Barack Obama has refused to be next president because he recognized inconsistency of his plan of stimulating USA economy.”

I can see how people would be fooled into believing this erroneous piece of so-called news, since the spammers have taken great care to disguise the website so that it looks that the official Obama-Biden campaign site. Be warned though that if you click on the link provided in this spam message, you will be asked to download some sort of .exe file onto your computer (read malware). Panda Labs, company that specializes in providing security software solutions, has detected the following applications: doc.exe, tatement.exe, obamaspeech.exe, blog.exe, barack.exe, usa.exe, baracknews.exe, pdf.exe, news.exe, obamasblog.exe, barakblog.exe, statement.exe, president.exe, obamanews.exe.
