Get the RCs of Linux Mint 16 'Petra' Cinnamon and MATE

The Release Candidates (RCs) of Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon and MATE have been rolled out to the public.

The Linux Mint team recently announced the release of Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon RC and Linux Mint 16 "Petra” MATE RC.

Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon comes with lots of new features, chief among them being: Cinnamon 2.0, enhanced speed and performance, a faster Software Manager, the login screen lets you easily login and switch between users, there’s a new tool to easily format USB sticks, artwork improvements, and many under-the-hood enhancements.

To run Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon RC, your PC needs to meet the following system requirements: 32 or 64-bit processor, 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended), 5GB of free disk space, graphics card capable of 800×600 resolution, CD/DVD drive or USB port.

Linux Mint 16 "Petra” MATE RC features MATE 1.6 and the same new features as Cinnamon: enhanced speed and performance, a faster Software Manager, the login screen lets you easily login and switch between users, there’s a new tool to easily format USB sticks, artwork improvements, and many under-the-hood enhancements.

Linux Mint 16 should be released to the public by the end of November. Petra, the operating systems codename, is a common name in Germany, Croatia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The name Petra comes from the Greek word for rock or stone – πέτρα.
