A couple of weeks ago I was glad to announce that the Linux Mint team rolled out the Release Candidates (RCs) of Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon and MATE.

This week I am glad to say that you can forget about the aforementioned Release Candidates. You see, the final versions of Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon and MATE have been rolled out to the public recently.
The operating systems are available for download on the official Linux Mint website. You can also find download links on the official Linux Mint blog.

If you’re already using the Release Candidate of Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon or MATE, then you need to know that the operating systems have shed their RC tag. The final versions of Petra Cinnamon and Petra MATE have recently been released to the public. To upgrade from the RC to the final version follow the instructions posted here.

If you did not get the Release Candidate of Linux Mint 16 "Petra” Cinnamon or MATE, then you need to know what the operating systems have to offer. Both versions of Linux Mint come with enhanced speed and performance, a faster Software Manager, the login screen lets you easily login and switch between users, there’s a new tool to easily format USB sticks, artwork improvements, and many under-the-hood enhancements. The Cinnamon version comes with Cinnamon 2.0 and the MATE one with MATE 1.6.
