On Monday, May 14, popular social networking and micro-blogging site Twitter shared some exciting news with the rest of the world: that you can get the best of Twitter delivered to your inbox. If you choose to receive it, a weekly email digest will be sent to your inbox. The email digest takes a quick look at what your Twitter connections shared and talked about – it’s basically a summary of the most important tweets and stories shared by the people you’re connected with.

“This new email digest also features the most engaging Tweets seen by the people you follow, even if you don’t follow those who wrote them. You can see who from your network retweeted or favorited these Tweets and click 'View details' to retweet, favorite, reply or view the conversation around them,” explained Othman Laraki, Director, Growth and International.

The same Othman Laraki explained that the recently updated Discover tab and the recently introduced “best of Twitter” feature share a similar design. The emphasis falls on who shared each story; and to help you rank stories by importance, there are summaries for each one. To read the whole story you need only click the headline. If you’re eager to add your opinion, you can tweet directly from your inbox.

You can choose to get the best of Twitter in your inbox, the new email digest we’ve covered in this article, by going to your Notification Settings. It is an email after all, and the Notification Settings is the place where you can manage your preferences. If you don’t see the new email digest, just be patient. Othman Laraki explained that the new feature is being rolled out gradually and that in the next few weeks it should be available for everyone.

So to sum it up, Twitter is rolling out a new feature that goes like this: you can opt to get a weekly email digest that highlights the most important tweets and stories shared by the people you’re connected with on the popular micro-blogging site.
