Get a Mac Ad Campaign Round 2: PCs Are Easy as 1-23
Remember the Laptop Hunters ad campaign that took a rather aggressive approach towards Macs? Aggressive in that it said Macs are all about looks than performance and cost way too much. Apple did not respond by saying PCs are this and that; instead it launched 4 new Get a Mac adds that were as simple and as funny as we’ve come to expect from the Cupertino based company, and now a new banner that says PCs are as simple as 1-23 (that’s 1 to 23, not as simple as 1,2,3).
The ad starts just as always: hello I’m a Mac and I’m a Pc, and so forth. PC then starts to talk about how people say Macs are incredibly easy to use, and of course, brags about how PCs are just as easy to use. Then points to the banner stating that says “PC. Easy as 1-23” and this is where we start laughing (at least I was). Don’t take my word for it; just watch the video for yourself here.
In case you are wondering what the banner says, here is a transcription:
1. Remove unneeded bloatware
2. Configure security settings
3. Download and install OS security patches
4. Restart
5. Download / install extra security programs
6. Restart
7. Download / install drivers for peripherals
8. Restart
9. Remove optional Windows components
10. Update new virus list
11. Run full system virus scan
12. Update new malware list
13. Run full system malware scan
14. Download / install application updates
15. Restart
16. Clean out system registry
17. Repair corrupt system registry
18. Defragment hard drive
19. Free up disk space
20. Scan disk for errors
21. Run system file checker
22. Read online instruction manual
23. Cross fingers
If you didn’t laugh when you saw the video, then you surely laughed when you read the list. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not an Apple fan boy that has it in for Microsoft and Windows, I just like clever ads. I think both companies put out good products, it’s just that in the ad department Apple has Microsoft beaten.
