Get Your Own Linux.com Email Address
The nonprofit organization dedicated to pretty much everything that has the Linux tag on it (including the redesigned Linux.com domain), the Linux Foundation, has recently made it known to the world that it will expand its individual membership program. This means the Linux Foundation will bring forth a bunch of new features and benefits – like for example the fact that you can have your own Linux.com email address.
The annual membership fee is $99, but do not be put off by that amount. There are benefits to becoming a member of the Linux Foundation. Since money is fresh in your mind, you must know that one of the benefits of the membership program is getting a 30% discount for standard LinuxCon registration or a 20% discount for training courses held by the Linux foundation. There are of course several other discounts that you can benefit from. Here is a quick list:
- Register by July 19 and get 20% off of OSCON 2009 (O’Reilly’s Open Source Convention)
- 35% off O’Reilly books and e-books.
- 35% off No Starch Press Publications.
- 15% off subscriptions to Linux Journal
- For every $40 order from ThinkGeek.com you will get $10 off
Now here are the free things you will get: a Linux Foundation t-shirt, your own Linux.com email address (user@linux.com), a weekly “Linux Briefing Book”, and the satisfaction that you are helping out the open source community.
Executive Director at the Linux Foundation, Jim Zemlin, comments: “The collective results of thousands of individual contributions are what have paved the way for Linux. This membership class enables more people to have an impact on the operating system while enjoying benefits such as major discounts off of industry events. And, if you are tired of the e-mail roysmith3526@mail.com now is your chance to switch to roy@linux.com.”
