Get Your Linux-branded Visa Credit Card Featuring Tux
There is one new way for the Linux community and the Linux fan to support Linux: thanks to the brand new Linux-branded Visa credit card (image below) that the Linux Foundation has just announced. All proceeds, as in 100% of them, will go the Linux Foundation which will use these funds to sponsor community events and to give members travel grants.
Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, Jim Zemlin, comments: “This credit card is in response to requests by individuals who want to get involved and support the Linux Foundation’s community activities. Some people write code while others work on marketing or defending Linux. The Linux-branded credit card is an easy way for anyone to contribute to the growth of Linux and identify themselves as supporters of the community by carrying Tux in their pocket.”
The affinity Linux credit card, which will be offered through UMB Bank, is the direct result of the Linux Foundation’s collaboration with CardPartner, Inc. For every card that is activated, the Linux Foundation will get $50; on top of that, the Linux Foundation will receive a percentage of every purchase the credit card holder makes. And where will all that money go? It will go towards accelerating Linux innovation and Linux growth. More precisely, the money will be used to set up community technical events and to give travel grants to open source community members.
Getting your Linux-branded Platinum Visa credit card comes with some other benefits as well:
- No annual fee and for the fist six months, no APR on purchases and balance transfers.
- Zero liability protection for unauthorized purchases.
- Reporting service for lost or stolen cards.
- Emergency cash and card replacement.
- 24-hour roadside assistance.
- Warranty manager service.
- Lost luggage replacement.
For the time being, the credit card is available for US residents only, but the Linux Foundation explained this offer will be expanded in a few months time.
