About Mafia III

Mafia III is an open world action-adventure video game that was released to the public in October 2016. The action is set in 1968 in the city of New Bordeaux, which is a re-imagined version of 1960s New Orleans.

The story revolves around Lincoln Clay, an orphan and a Vietnam War veteran who is betrayed and almost killed by the Italian mafia. Now that Lincoln Clay has lost everything, the only thing he has left is a burning desire to get revenge. So he starts his own criminal organization and goes to war against the Italian mob.

If you want to get Mafia III, expect to pay as much as eighty bucks for it. The standard game is priced at $59.99 on Steam and the Digital Deluxe edition, which includes the full game and Season Pass, is priced at $79.99. In Europe, the standard game is priced at €49.99 and the Digital Deluxe edition is priced at €69.99.

Mafia III isn’t a cheap game! It was a couple of weeks ago when it was discounted by 67% as part of Steam’s 2K Publisher Weekend, but it isn’t cheap now. Before you spend a lot of money on this game, you need to make sure that it’s worth it. And that’s where the Free Demo comes in.

Get the Free Mafia III Demo

The free demo lets you play the entire first act of Mafia III – "an exhilarating bank heist gone wrong that sets the stage for betrayal and Lincoln Clay’s revenge against the Italian mob in New Bordeaux."

If you like the demo and you decide that Mafia III is worth your hard earned money, all your progress will transfer when you purchase the game.

If I were you, I would wait and get Mafia III on sale. Why, you ask? Because of the mixed reviews, of course. On one hand, Mafia III has been praised for its awesome soundtrack, award-wining narrative, and darker themes. On the other hand, Mafia III has been criticized for its repetitive gameplay, bland open world, and poor performance. At the time of writing this, Mafia III has little over ten thousand reviews on Steam, with the overall feeling towards the game being "mixed."

Faster, Baby! DLC for Mafia III

Faster, Baby! is the first of 3 story DLCs for the Mafia III game. Available as a standalone purchase and as part of the Mafia III Season Pass, this DLC introduces a new narrative that takes place in Sinclair Parish, a town west of the Bayou that is controlled by the corrupt and powerful Sheriff “Slim” Beaumont.

Lincoln teams up with sister-in-arms Roxy Laveau (new character) when a Civil Rights leader is murdered and other activists are targeted. The two take engage in high-octane car chases, epic new military-grade combat tactics and seedy operations to bring Slim and his corrupt Sheriff’s Department to justice.

On top of the new narrative, the Faster, Baby! DLC introduces new driving mechanics, new combat mechanics, new weapons and new vehicles.

Two more Mafia III DLCs will be released this summer: Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times.

Faster, Baby! is available for purchase on Steam, priced at $14.99. If you purchase the Mafia III Season Pass, which is priced at $29.99, you’ll get the Faster, Baby! and the upcoming Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times DLCs for free. The same goes for Mafia III Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the full game and the Season Pass.

Try Mafia III: Rivals for Mobile

Alongside Mafia III for consoles and PC, there’s a tie in mobile game for iOS and Android called Mafia III: Rivals. It is a turn-based battle RPG where you have to assemble a crime family and face off against waves of rival gangs or against players from around the world.

"Steal, seize, and slaughter for control of New Bordeaux in Mafia III: Rivals," says the game’s official description. "Be the boss and assemble your crime family. Outfit your characters with brutal weapons, items, vehicles, and stake your claim over local businesses. As your power grows, so does your stake in the criminal underworld. Own the city."

Mafia III: Rivals is available for free (with in-app purchase) on Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

UPDATE: Mafia III is 67% off on the Humble Store for a limited time.

Mafia III is heavily discounted on the Humble Bundle's online store until Monday, April 3. Mafia III is $19.79 instead of $59.99 and €16.49 instead of €49.99. Mafia III Digital Deluxe is $26.39 instead of $79.99 and €23.09 instead of €69.99.

Buying Mafia III from the Humble Store means you'll get a game key that you must redeem on Steam. So in fact, it's a lot like buying it directly from Steam.
