Game Protector, Put a Password on Your Favorite Games

With recent news that California Congressman Joe Baca is pushing for games to feature a warning label (such as the one posted on cigarette packs), I thought it a good idea to bring Game Protector, software application that password protects games, to your attention.

What Joe Baca is trying to do is to get the ESRB (short for Entertainment Software Rating Board) to place a health warning label on every video game that has been rated T (13+) or above. The label would say something like “WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior” and would be featured on packaged as well as digitally distributed video games.

“We must hold the video game industry accountable and do everything in our power to ensure parents are aware of the detrimental effects that violent games can have before making decisions on which games are appropriate for their children to play. I am proud to introduce the Video Game Health Labeling Act of 2009, and am hopeful my legislation can work to stop the growing influence of violent media on America’s children and youth,” said Congressman Joe Baca.

If you do have T rated games installed on your machine and do not want your little one to access them (or any other game for that matter), then Game Protector is the software application for you. What this free piece of software does is it places a password on the game .exe of your choice, so that only you can access it. The game files will remain locked even after being transferred to another machine.

Game Protector brings another software application to mind, Empathy which can be used to achieve a similar effect. What Empathy software does is it password protects all Windows applications, not just games. IF on the other hand you would like to encrypt and password protect files, why not try Folder Lock?

If you would like to get Game Protector, a download location is available here.
