I don’t know about you, but I don’t particularly like to part with my hard earned money, not when I could get things for free. If you are like me and you get excited when you can get stuff for free, then you will be glad to know that Skype is offering free WiFi to celebrate Social Media Week. From today, the 7th of February, and until Saturday, the 12th of February, Skype is giving away free WiFi.

“To celebrate Social Media Week, we’re giving away free WiFi through Skype Access, the single-click Internet access feature, in New York, San Francisco, London, Rome, Paris, Toronto, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong and Istanbul for the duration of the festival,” announced Shadi Mahassel, Product Manager for Skype Access.

Normally, with Skype Access, you would have to pay for WiFi access using Skype Credit – if you have a connection to a Skype Access compatible hotspot and the latest Skype version (that would be Skype 5.1 for Windows and Skype 5.0 for Mac which recently graduated out of Beta). You can forget about paying and you can keep your hard earned money in your pocket, all thanks to Social Media Week.

“From 0001 GMT on the 7th February 2011 to 2359 GMT on the 12th February 2011, Skype Access will be free to use for up to 60 minutes, so you can surf the web, send email and make free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls at Skype Access-enabled WiFi hotspots in cafés, hotels and airports in New York, San Francisco, London, Rome, Paris, Toronto, São Paulo, Hong Kong and Istanbul,” added Mahassel.

In related news, Skype has recently announced it will add 350 new jobs this year. As Skype is growing in popularity, it is growing its team globally as part of its commitment to ramp its innovation of new products across different platforms for consumers and businesses. This year Skype will open up 350 jobs, many of which will be in its Palo Alto office. So if you’re looking for a job, or if you are fed up with your current job, 2011 may be the year when you’ll start working for Skype.
