Free Game Alert: Evolve Goes Free-to-Play (on PC only)

Turtle Rock Studios just announced that Evolve, the 4v1 first-person shooter where 4 people play as hunters and 1 as the monster, has gone free-to-play.

If you want to play Evolve for free, now you can – but only if you have a PC, not if you have a console.

Say hello to Evolve: Stage 2



Evolve: Stage 2 comes with lots of changes and improvements. If you want to check out the full 18-page change list, here are the patch notes. If not, here are the main highlights:
  • All content in Evolve: Stage 2 can be earned for free. You’ll need Silver Keys to unlock content. To earn them you need only play the game.
  • The user interface (UI) has been redone from the ground up.
  • There’s a brand new progression system with a rebuilt account level system and a brand new character-specific progression system.
  • You’ll get rewards for logging into the game daily and for completing daily challenges. If you don’t like a challenge, you can swap it for another.
  • You now have 3 tiers of perks to choose from to customize your character.
  • All hunters have a Dome, meaning that any hunter can trap the monster.
  • Distillery, Orbital Drill, Weather Control and Wraith Trap maps have been completely rebuilt and designed for faster paced gameplay.
  • Improved visual effects, stability and overall performance.

If you want to play Evolve, you can get it for free from Steam.

If you already own Evolve for PC, the game will automatically update to Stage 2. As a thank you for having purchased the game, you will get Founder Status. As a Founder, you get 3,000 Silver Keys, dozens of weapon skins, monster and hunter perks, animated badges, and other bonuses.

The console version of Evolve will still cost money. Sorry console gamers.
