Free Drinks, Cheap Food, and Plenty of Cocktails

Technology can help us unwind, can makes us laugh, and it can even turn us into more efficient snipers. But what about the essentials, things like eating and drinking, preferably for free or for really low prices? As you would expect, it can help with that too. If you want to drink for free, then MyOpenBar can help you; if you want to concoct all sorts of cocktails, the Cocktails Made Easy app for the iPhone and iPod touch provides a list of recipes that runs into the hundreds; and if you want to find food at really cheap prices, then let UEatCheap help you.

Let’s start with the food. UEatCheap is an online service that locates restaurants and other places where you could grab a bite to eat for under $10. All you have to do is enter the name or zip code of the city or state where you would like to find some food, and then choose between all the different types of restaurants that the service provides. The search can also be limited to restaurants within a certain area – a search radius of 5 miles for example.

After having fulfilled your need to eat, perhaps you will appreciate a free drink. Companies that produce alcoholic beverages and want to penetrate the market will sometimes have free promotions, meaning that you can just show up and have something to drink on the company’s dollar, not your own. Bars that just opened for business and want to make a name for themselves will also set up such promotions, and all of them will be listed on MyOpenBar.

Perhaps leaving the house is not your style and you would much rather stay in and have a refreshing cocktail. Fizz Software has just released an app called Cocktails Made Easy that features a staggering 500+ recipes to choose from, and the best part is that if you want to try out all of them, all you need is a total of 14 ingredients. If at some point you think that the variety is so large that you cannot pick one cocktail, just shake your iPhone and the app will randomly pick one for you. For a drinking game may I suggest Free Rice, a game that donates rice to starving children.
