Foursquare, the location-based social networking app for mobile devices, is undergoing a substantial transformation.

Foursquare will change its logo and will get a new look – which is good, I guess. The part that isn’t so good is that check-ins are gone! All check-ins are moving to Foursquare’s new app, Swarm.

Foursquare Gets a New Logo

The check-in checkmark is a thing of the past. Foursquare is changing it with something that better represents the new Foursquare.

This is Foursquare’s old logo.
Use this as an opportunity to say goodbye.

The new Foursquare logo looks like this.

This new logo blends together a map pin and a superhero emblem. “We’ve always thought of Foursquare as giving you superpowers to explore your city, and our new logo reflects that vision,” explained Foursquare.

Foursquare Gets a New Look

Exploring the world is a personal matter. Your journey is influenced by your tastes, your friends, and the people you trust! Since different people like different things, why should they get the same recommendations? They should get different recommendations, recommendations tailored specifically for them.

You will have to tell the new Foursquare a few things about yourself. Once you do that, the app will provide personalized recommendations.

Foursquare Check-ins Are Gone

Sarting today, July 24, 2014, Foursquare is moving all check-ins to the new Swarm app. Please note that all your past check-ins, all your friends, and all your photos, are automatically transitioned to Swarm. Speaking about transitions, more than three-quarters of Foursquare users made the switch to Swarm.

It must be mentioned here that Foursquare and Swarm work seamlessly together. If you use Foursquare alone, there’s no check-in button on the app’s interface. But if you use Foursquare and Swarm, there is a check-in button that you can use.

This is the beginning of the ‘personalized local search’ future we’ve been talking about since we started Foursquare. It’s been built with the help of our amazing 50,000,000-strong community, with all your tips, check-ins, photos, and the smarts we layered on top of that. Those of you have been with us since the beginning, your check-ins and history will continue to help shape your recommendations. For those of you giving us a try for the first time – you still get all the benefits of a better way to explore any neighborhood, no check-ins required.”
