Nullsoft, the developer behind the Winamp media player and the SHOUTcast MP3 streaming media server, announced earlier this week that the functionality Winamp has to offer is available for one more platform. As you may already know, Winamp is available for the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system, for the Google-developed Android mobile OS, and for open-source OS Linux.

As of this week, Winamp is available one more platform – the Apple-developed Mac OS X. Winamp for Mac Sync Beta, the very first Winamp desktop application for Mac, has been released to the public. Nullsoft explained that this Beta release marks “the first step in a long journey” and is standing proof that the team behind Winamp is committed to bringing a properly good media player to the Mac OS platform.

“Our number one goal for this first (beta) release is to provide a robust sync solution for Mac desktop and Android phone users leveraging our very popular and industry best Winamp for Android music manager. As a bonus, there are a good number of library playback and management features... with many more coming very soon,” explained the Winamp team.

If you’re anxious to get Winamp for Mac Sync Beta, you can get it here. Before you do, take a look at this list of features to better understand what you can expect to get from the app:
  • Desktop music player that lets you listen to all your tracks; you can play all your local music and playlists.
  • Imports and automatically syncs all of your playlists from your iTunes and Mac desktop. You can edit, create, and sync playlists with your Android-powered device.
  • WiFi sync with your Android device if you have Winamp for Android installed on it.
  • With automatic sync between iTunes and the Watch Folders you specify, you can keep your Winamp library up to date.

Before you go get Winamp for Mac Sync Beta, there is one other thing you must know about. As the Beta part in the app’s name indicates, this app is in an early development phase. Betas tend to be buggy, so do not get Winamp for Mac Sync Beta unless you understand what it means to Beta test a product.
