Wolfram Algebra Course Assistant, Wolfram Calculus Course Assistant, and Wolfram Music Theory Course Assistant are three apps Wolfram Alpha has rolled out this week. These apps use the power of Wolfram Alpha to access relevant information for a specific course. For example Algebra Course Assistant helps you solve equations, plot functions, and factor polynomials.

Calculus Course Assistant helps you better understand derivates, integrals, and limits so that you get better grades on your exams. Last but not least, Music Theory Course Assistant helps you learn about notes, intervals, scales, and chords.

All the apps are available for Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad powered by iOS 3.2 or later. The Wolfram Algebra and the Wolfram Music Theory apps are both priced at $1.99 while the Wolfram Calculus app is priced at $2.99 on the App Store.

The team behind Wolfram Alpha, the computational knowledge engine developed by British-born physicist and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram, explained that more apps will soon follow.

“The long-term goal is to have an assistant app for every major course, from elementary school to graduate school. And the good news is that Wolfram|Alpha has the breadth and depth of capabilities to make this possible—and not only in traditionally 'computational' kinds of courses,” explained the Wolfram Alpha team. “The course assistant apps that we’re releasing today are a small sample of what’s to come. Over the next few months, we’ll be rolling out all sorts of course assistant apps. We’ll be covering courses not only in the sciences but also in the humanities and in many professional areas.”

In the future Wolfram Alpha plans to release Course Assistant apps for chemistry, astronomy, physics, multivariable calculus, accounting, and statistics..
