Photoshop Elements 8, the Windows-specific version, has been available for download for a few days now, with the Mac OS X version slated to be released this October. Barely has the software been rolled out that Adobe has announced the fact that it is aware of a problem affecting the software which could lead to privilege escalation. “Adobe is aware of a report of improper service permissions potentially leading to a local privilege escalation issue in Photoshop Elements 8.0. We are currently investigating this issue and will have an update once we have more information. For clarity, please note that "local privilege escalation" means that valid login credentials and/or physical access to a computer is required for service permissions to be altered. It would not be possible to exploit this issue from a remote source over the internet,” explained the California-based company that specializes in creating multimedia and creativity software products.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 provides the following intelligent photo-editing functionality to the Windows user:
- Manage and find media (photos and videos) easier than ever before thanks to the enhanced Organizer.
- Automatically analyze and tag media with the new Auto-Analyzer
- Automatically identify people in media thanks to the People Recognition feature
- Automatically sync media across several computers
- Merge multiple shots of the same scene with Adobe Photomerge Exposure
- Automatically resize photos with Recompose without distorting the image.
- Quick Fix previews
- Online Album templates
- The option to purchase Plus, which comes with: 20GB of storage space for up to 15,000 photos 4 hours’ worth of DVD-quality videos, tutorials, tips and tricks, seasonal artwork , interactive online templates.

The Mac OS X user can expect to get the following functionality once the software becomes available for download:
- All the features included in Adobe Bridge CS4
- All the photo-editing options included in the Windows version
- Scene Cleaner is a feature unique to the Mac version; it can be used to brush out elements in a picture that you don’t what there.
