The good news is that the first public preview version of Firefox for iOS has been released.

The bad news is that it has been released in New Zealand only. It’s not internationally available, not yet at least.

Mozilla’s aim is to make Firefox available to as many users as possible and that means making the web browser available on as many platforms and as many devices as possible.

As you may already know, Firefox is available for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, and Firefox OS. And as of this month, it's also available for iOS. That’s right, Mozilla’s web browser really is available for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system.

The first public preview of Firefox of iOS has been released, but it’s only available in New Zealand for now.

“Our goal is to create a great browsing experience for iOS with Firefox. With this first public preview we will be collecting feedback in one country, before we extend availability to get feedback in a few more countries prior to a full public launch. Feedback from this preview release will help us build new features and bring Firefox for iOS to the App Store in rest of the world later this year,” said Mozilla.

Mozilla is collecting feedback on the following features:
  • Intelligent Search – suggested search results and a list of search providers are displayed when you enter a search query.
  • Firefox Accounts – keep your browsing history, passwords, and tabs in sync between your desktop and your iOS device.
  • Visual Tabs – this is an intuitive way to keep track of your open tabs.
According to Mozilla, Firefox for iOS will be published to Apple’s App Store and will become internationally available “later this year”.
