As I am sure you know, the Fifa 2010 World Cup will kick off tomorrow, the 11th of June, 2010. Football (or soccer as it is called in the US) fans all over the world are getting ready for the event – and so is the Mozilla Foundation.

As you may already know, you can customize the way the Firefox browser looks by using a Persona. Initially Firefox Personas was an add-on that you could install and change the way Firefox looked. But with the launch of Firefox 3.6, Personas became an integral part of the browser. What does that gave to do with the World Cup? Well, Mozilla has recently announced the Firefox Cup .

You can get a Firefox Cup Persona and support your favorite World Cup Team. By doing this, not only are you showing your passion for your favorite team by using a Persona, you are also helping your favorite team win the Firefox Cup. The team with the most fans wins the Firefox Cup and will be showcased on Mozilla’s site.

“Being in front of your computer doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the action, you can participate with the Firefox Cup . By wearing one of these 32 Personas to support your team, you’ll take part in the global Firefox Cup competition. On the Firefox Cup website, you can easily see how many “fans” each team has (i.e., how many people are wearing each team Persona on their Firefox). The team with the most fans will win the Firefox Cup!” explained Mozilla.

There will be 4 rounds in the Firefox Cup challenge. The first round will end on June the 16th, the second round on June 23rd, the third round on June 30th and the fourth round will end on July 7th. On these dates Mozilla will announce the winner of that specific round. Then on the 14th of July, Mozilla will announce the country winner of the Firefox Cup.
