Firefox 3.0.11 Update Makes the Browser Safer and More Stable
While we were playing with Firefox 3.5 Preview of Firefox 3.5 Beta 99 and waiting patiently for Firefox 3.5 RC1 to be rolled out, the Mozilla team has issued an update for the 3.0 version of its browser. The update in question is Firefox 3.0.11 and while it does not bring any new features to the table, it does make Firefox a safer and more stable platform.
Firefox Launch Coordinator, Samuel Sidler, comments: “As part of Mozilla Corporation’s ongoing security and stability update process, Firefox 3.0.11 is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux for free download. We strongly recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to this latest release. If you already have Firefox 3.0.x, you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This update can also be applied manually by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the Help menu.”
The new bits and pieces that come with Firefox 3.0.11
- Several stability problems have been addressed.
- A total of 9 security holes have been plugged. Out of these 9 security vulnerabilities, 4 have been given the critical rating by Mozilla. A detailed list of what security problems Mozilla addressed with Firefox 3.0.11 is available here.
- The SQLite internal database has been upgraded to address a few issues.
- In some cases the bookmarks database became corrupt; this has been fixed.
The interesting thing about this update is that it became available for download before Mozilla had the chance to announce it officially. You could download Firefox 3.0.11 from various specialized sites on the internet, before Mozilla had a chance to roll it out yet. At the time (yesterday) clicking the “Check for Updates” tab in the “Help” menu revealed that no update was available, leading the more security oriented users out there to wonder whether the update version availalbe for download from various sites is legitimate. With Mozilla itself making the update available for download, there is no need for concern anymore.
If you would like to get Firefox 3.0.11, a download location is available here.
