Amazon, the Washington headquartered multinational electronic commerce company, has released a cool new app that works on iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads powered by iOS 3.1 or newer. The app in question is called Price Check and it serves a simple enough purpose – to help you find the best price for whatever item you want to purchase.

Here’s the app’s official description, as presented on iTunes:
“Ever wondered if you were getting the best price on a product when you were out shopping? With Price Check by Amazon, you can use your iPhone to instantly compare prices with Amazon.com and its merchants while on-the-go. Price Check enables you to search Amazon products quickly using barcode, picture, voice, and text search. All prices are in US Dollars and search the Amazon US catalog.”

Offered free of charge by Amazon, the Price Check app puts four different search capabilities at your disposal:

Scan barcode
After you scan a barcode, in a matter of seconds you will be presented with a list of prices for that product. The app will identify the product based on the barcode and will offer Amazon and merchant product pricing in no time at all.

Take a picture

If you take a picture of a book, CD, DVD, video game, and so on, the app will use Amazon’s photo matching algorithm to identify the item in the image. It will then offer you a list of prices.

Speak
Speak out the product’s name and the app will search for that product and present you with prices based on your query.

Type it in
Type a product’s name yourself and the app will instantly retrieve matches based on your query.

“This app makes it incredibly easy to quickly compare prices on millions of items before making a purchase,” said Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile. “We’ve worked hard to have low prices at Amazon, and we like it when customers comparison shop so they know they’re getting a good deal. We hope this app will empower customers to shop with confidence this holiday and any other day.”
