Are you always on the go and the only thing that is preventing you from connecting to the web is finding a free Wi-Fi spot? Perhaps you would like to watch Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony on your laptop or netbook but you need an Internet connection to do so. If that is the case, then you will appreciate WeFi, a software application that does much more than simply locate a Wi-Fi spot in your area.

“WeFi is software loaded onto your laptop or mobile device. It automatically detects and qualifies all Wi-Fi access points within range and connects you to the spot with the best Internet connection. If the WeFi software detects a new access point, it allows you to be the first to map it. WeFi also provides you with Instant-Messaging tools, allowing you to create a buddy list, and to see where your friends are currently connected,” explains WeFi.

There are currently three software products in the WeFi line: WeFi Mobile which is meant to work with Windows Mobile powered smartphones; WeFi Laptop which is meant to work with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X powered devices and will aid users to seamlessly connect to the web and with friends; WeFi Web, which pinpoints locations on the map where free Wi-Fi spots are available as well as places where people are connected to the web by means of free Wi-Fi.

Here is how WeFi works; whenever you want to connect to the Internet, the software will check to see if it is already aware of Wi-Fi spots in your area; if it is not, then it scans for free Wi-Fi and automatically connects you to the one that offers the fastest connection. That info is stored and used whenever another user will try to connect to the web from the same location. “As more users join, more WiFi data is collected and mapped. This helps everyone find free WiFi more easily. The world's WiFi is being mapped (by our users), creating a global virtual wireless network...” says WeFi.
