AVG Technologies, the Czech company that provides antivirus and security software products for home and business users, announced at the start of the month that AVG Internet Security 2012 has been released to the masses. The company explained that the latest edition of its market leading internet security software is a lot better than the previous version, AVG Internet Security 2011. It is lighter, it is faster, it is smaller, and it brings with it performance enhancements and adds new protection technologies.

AVG Technologies provided some figures to better put in perspective just how good AVG Internet Security 2012 is compared to the previous version. Here are those figures:

- The download size and install time has dropped by 50%
- On average, disk space requirements have dropped by 45%
- AVG Internet Security 2012 boasts 20% less processes and memory usage
- AVG Internet Security 2012 loads 10% faster than AVG Internet Security 2011.

I mentioned above that AVG Internet Security 2012 has performance enhancements and new protection technologies to offer. What I meant to say by that is that AVG Internet Security 2012 offers two new features:

AVG Accelerator – it optimizes file and video downloads on selected sites, so that downloads complete as fast as possible.
AVG Advisor – it constantly monitors the computer and proactively advises the user with available remedies and optimization possibilities for various computer problems they may have. This is on top of AVG Internet Security’s multi-layered protection that encompasses signature-based antivirus, heuristics and behavior-based threats detection, a firewall, and AVG LinkScanner.

CTO of AVG Technologies, Yuval Ben-Itzhak, explained that the enhancements AVG Internet Security 2012 has to offer were implemented based on user feedback:
“AVG has 98 million active customers who are constantly helping us improve our products. Their feedback was analyzed and leveraged on the development of new products that better serve their needs while connected online. We enhanced AVG Internet Security 2012 as a result of listening to our users who asked for peace of mind, better security against threats and an optimized computing performance.”
