ESET, company that offers antivirus software for home and business users, announced this week that the fifth generation of its security products has been released to the public. Or to put it in other words, ESET Smart Security 5 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 are now available for download. As ESET explained, the products are faster, improve usability, and offer an even higher level of protection against cyber-threats.

“After thorough testing and months of development, we are proud to present our customers with completely new ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 and ESET Smart Security 5 products,” announced ESET Chief Executive Officer, Richard Marko.

“With the new technologies we are incorporating into the products like ESET Live Grid and our Advanced HIPS, we will be providing more comprehensive protection than ever before. At ESET, we always strive to deliver technologically advanced products employing the latest innovations and we are already working on developing future generations of our security solutions,” Marko added.

The ESET Live Grid feature Marko mentioned above is a cloud-based reputation and protection technology that is meant to give the user’s computer a performance boost. What it does is it collects data from the more than 100 million ESET users around the world and uses said data to create whitelists; it then uses the whitelists to more accurately detect threats and to reduce scanning speed. So thanks to ESET Live Grid, threats can be detected faster and more accurately, without impacting computer performance too much.

The Advanced HIPS (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System) Marko mentioned above prevents system-level changes being made behind the user’s back. It is an extra layer of security that allows advanced users to customize the behavior of the entire system. Specific rules for system registry, processes, and applications and files can be defined.

The bottom line is that ESET Smart Security 5 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 are out and they are better than previous versions.
