Do you know what day it is today? Of course you do; it is Friday, the beginning of the penultimate weekend before Christmas. To get you into the Christmas spirit, and to allow you to let your hair down at the office, the time waster game (yes, a game as usual, not a Firefox add-on) I present to you today is called Wrap Attack (not to be confused with the vehicle wrapping company from North Carolina, nor with the fast food outlet from Australia). Wrap Attack the game puts you in the (funny) shoes of an elf that has the task of rescuing Santa Clause, who somehow managed to get himself kidnapped.

Why did I choose this game? The obvious reason is that it is a Christmassy themed game and Christmas Eve is only a few days away. But the main reason I picked it is that it allows me to say “let’s wrap up the software news of this week”. Google has certainly kept busy this week by releasing Tasks, a Google Labs feature that can be compared to a to-do list, by re-releasing the once rolled back Gmail SMS feature, and by updating Google Chrome 1.0, the first version of this software that does not feature a Beta logo. We’ve also reported on useful Gmail features that get overlooked and how to maximize Google translations in Firefox. Speaking of Firefox, Mozilla put out Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 and Thunderbird 3 Beta 1.

Moving on to operating systems, openSUSE 11.1 is available for pre-order, Apple is imminently close to releasing Mac OS X 10.5.6, we saw some ways to access Vista functionality and looks in Windows XP, and even some updates to Windows Mobile. If you would like to check out other software news, you can do so here (and don’t forget to subscribe to our RSS feed ).

Getting back to Wrap Attack, there is not much I can tell you about the game, other than the fact that I like it’s looks, I like the music, and I am even willing to look beyond the “Santa loses his wand part” (it’s not like he’s the Fairy God Mother, but I guess the guys at Funnaut had to give that elf some sort of weapon to combat Dr. Zass).

If you would like to play the game, click here. Alternative location available here.
