Facebook for iPhone App v. 3.1.1 Is Buggy

The development team behind the Facebook for iPhone app (minus Joe Hewitt, who was fed up with Apple’s review process and moved on to other things) recently released version 3.1, and update that brought the much asked for Push Notification feature. Facebook for iPhone 3.1 also came with the ability to sync your friends with your address book (including photos).

As soon as the app was released it came to light that the address book syncing feature did not work properly. The app was updated to version 3.1.1 as quick as lightning. The update was meant to iron out all the kings in the software. As it turns out, there are still a few issues that need to be addressed.

Facebook for iPhone 3.1 users have been complaining about these problems:
  • - The much awaited Push Notification feature does not work. I mean, the whole purpose of v 3.1 was to add Push Notifications to the list of features, but sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t.
  • - When the Push Notification does work, there is no sound alert to inform you that you’ve received a notification. What are users supposed to do? Keep an eye on their iPhone at ALL times?
  • - After updating to version 3.1 some users say the app just up and closes all on its own.

A hat tip goes to TiPb’s Jeremy Sikora , the one who brought this piece of info to my attention and who was a bit upset about the situation: “We realize Joe Hewitt leaving left you in the lurch, but come on Facebook, you have Microsoft money and one of the most consistently popular apps in the app store! A 1.0 app from a startup we understand, but 3.1 from the social networking giant? It’s never a wise idea to use the general public as your beta testers. If the application is not ready for prime time, don’t release a sub-par application. Wait. You’ll have more time and we’ll get a better app. Now that you’ve released it, however, we’re all stuck, and you need to get it fixed and yesterday.”

The Facebook for iPhone app, if you still want to get it, is available for download from the App Store here.
