Joe Hewitt, the software developer over at Facebook, responsible for the social networking site’s dedicated iPhone app, has announced to the world that work on the Facebook for iPhone 3.0 is almost done. Consequently you can expect to see Facebook for iPhone 3.0, and all its cool features, be rolled out as soon as possible.

“Facebook for iPhone 3.0 is coming very soon. I can't predict an exact date when I will submit to Apple, but I can say that I am about 98% done. The one feature everyone is asking for, Push Notifications, is in development but it won't make it into 3.0. You can expect it in a 3.1 update later this summer,” explained Joe Hewitt.

Facebook for iPhone 3.0 comes with the following features:
- New home screen that provides seamless access to all your data.
- News Feed, the new one.
- Notes
- Pages
- Like
- Create new photo albums, upload photos to any album, photo zoom in.
- Enhanced photo tagging and improved notifications.
- Profile Pictures albums
- Add Facebook profiles and pages to the iPhone’s home screen.
- The option to call or text people from the Friends page.
- Messages will be restored if you received a phone call while typing them or if you quit.

Push Notification is a new feature in the iPhone OS 3.0 that allows you to receive Facebook notifications on your iPhone’s screen, regardless of the fact that the Facebook for iPhone app is not running at the time. For example if someone contacts you in Facebook, you will receive a Push Notification that you need to access your Facebook account because person X called on you. Unfortunately, as Joe Hewitt explained, this is a feature that will be released in the months to come and will not be a part of the Facebook for iPhone 3.0 app.
