Facebook Questions Graduates Out of Beta

The nice thing about having a social network at our fingertips is that when you want to know something about a specific topic, you can ask your friends. If you’re wondering about whether you should go to Maui to enjoy a spot of windsurfing or kiteboarding, you can ask your friends what the best spot on the island is. Sure, checking out info about Maui on specialized sites like Epikoo is nice, but nothing beats getting first hand information from your friends.

Back in the summer of 2010 the team behind immensely popular social networking site Facebook began testing out a new feature called Facebook Questions. A handful of people got to test out Facebook Questions, a product that allowed them to pose questions to the Facebook community. They could get answers from their friends and from other Facebook users who know something about the question.

As of this month, the Facebook Questions product is no longer in Beta. Product Manager for Questions, Adrian Graham, announced that Questions will soon be rolled out to every Facebook user out there. Before that happens, you can check out Facebook Questions here.

Adrian explained that Facebook users would often ask their friends for opinion; they would post a question like “what is your favorite kiteboarding spot?” and wait for their friends to post their answers. The team behind Facebook did not originally anticipate users would do this. When the Facebook team noticed this user behavior, they started thinking about how they could make the user experience more pleasurable – and so they came up with Facebook Questions.

“Like many of our products, Questions originated as people began using Facebook in a new and unexpected way. We wanted to make questions easier and faster to answer. With the updated Questions you can agree with an existing answer with a single click, or you can add a different response. This makes it easy for many more people to respond to you. It also helps us show you the most popular responses,” explained Adrian Graham.
