Facebook Integration for Mac Version of Skype as Well
This June Skype announced that it integrated Facebook in the Beta version of its Windows client. Skype 5.5 for Windows Beta, said Skype at the time, allows users to view Facebook friends in the contacts list and send instant messages to those Facebook friends. Then in July Skype announced that v. 5.5 graduated out of Beta, that it’s available as a stable version for all Windows users to enjoy.
Last week Skype announced that it added the same functionality to its Mac client. Skype 5.4 for Mac Beta features the same Facebook integration as Skype 5.5 for Windows does. The functionality that Windows users have been enjoying for months now, has finally been delivered to Mac users as well.
“We are excited to finally deliver Facebook integration to our Mac users,” said Product Manager for Skype for Mac, Krishna Panicker. He went on to say that if you want to be able to chat with your Facebook friends from within Skype, read and update your Facebook news feed from within Skype, and comment and like Facebook posts from within Skype, you should go get Skype 5.4 for Mac Beta.
There’s another similarity between Skype 5.4 for Mac Beta and Skype 5.5 for Windows: both display ads. Krishna Panicker explained that an advertising platform has been introduced in the latest version of Skype for Mac and that it’s similar to the mode currently being used in Skype for Windows. This means that both Skype for Windows and Skype for Mac display ads now – but not to paying Skype users or Skype users who have Skype Credit.
