The Reactions that Facebook introduced earlier this year are getting a Halloween makeover. That’s one of the treats that Facebook has in store for Halloween.

The second treat Facebook prepared is the option to make it seem like you’re wearing a spooky mask while you you’re sharing live video.

Facebook’s 6 Reactions are getting a Halloween Makeover

Facebook did not turn a deaf ear to all the people who asked for a Dislike button. It didn’t give them one either. What we got instead was a bunch a reactions: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad and Angry.

With Halloween coming up, Facebook announced that it’s launching a set of limited-edition Halloween reactions. Here’s how they’re different from the regular ones. Like turned into a skeletal thumbs up, Love is candy heart, Haha is a cackling witch, Wow is a ghost, Sad looks like Frankenstein, and Angry is a scowling pumpkin.

The limited-edition Halloween reactions are being rolled out to people in a select set of countries. To use them, hold down the Like button on mobile or hover over the Like button on desktop.

Facebook Live is getting spooky masks

Facebook Live, the feature that lets you stream live videos via Facebook, is getting some spooky Halloween-themed live filter masks. Like a skull, an evil queen and two limited-edition masks: a pumpkin and a witch.

To access these masks you have to:
  • Tap the Live Video icon at the top of your Timeline, News Feed or Page.
  • Tap the magic wand from the upper left hand corner.
  • Select the masks icon in the creative tools tray at the bottom of your screen.
  • Tap a mask and it will automatically appear on your face. Tap the no mask sign to remove the mask.

Masks are rolling out for people using Facebook Live on iOS in the US, UK and New Zealand. Support for more countries and Android will be added "in the coming months."

These Halloween-themed masks use the technology that Facebook bought earlier this year. Back in March, Facebook acquired Masquerade, the company behind the MSQRD live filter app for iOS and Android. CEO Eugene Nevgen explained at the time that by joining Facebook, Masquerade’s technology would become part of Facebook and would reach even more people.
